Andreas G. Orphanides

Dr. Andreas G. Orphanides is a university professor. He has served and has taught at universities in the U.S.A. and in Europe. His research and publications have concentrated in the Hellenic civilization, with emphasis on that of Cyprus, within the framework of the European and Eastern Mediterranean culture. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Athens, and a M.A. and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. He studied both Classical and Byzantine music at the National Conservatory, the School of Byzantine Music of the Kyrenia Diocese (Chapter at Lapithos), and with the method of distance learning.

Professor Orphanides, apart from his academic activities, has systematically been working creatively with music composition. Compositions of his have been performed in Cyprus, Europe and America. His most recent works are “Symphony in D minor “Olympic Legacy” (for symphony orchestra, choir and soloist-baritone), “Symphonic Suite in F major ‘Koines Rizes’” (for symphony orchestra), “Symphonic Poem ‘Anerada’ for Piano and Orchestra”, “’Doxaste–Giortaste’ for choir and symphonic band”, the “University Anthems” of European University Cyprus and Open University of Cyprus (composition and lyrics), as well as three compact discs, «EURASHE Gala Concert at Talinn ‘Orphanides meets Kapp’”, Fyllokarkia” (composition and lyrics), and ”Nisi tou Erota (lyrics).
