Julietta  Demetriades

Soprano Julietta Demetriades has been described as an artist of ‘quality and persuasion.’ Critics have hailed her performances as keeping ‘the audience hypnotised with her charm and great artistic skills.’

Born in Cyprus, she began her musical studies at the Hellenic School of Music in Nicosia, with Pitsa Spyridaki in piano and Elii Korai- Yerolemou in singing. After graduating from the school in both subjects, she received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London, to study piano under Christopher Elton and Piers Lane and singing under Yvonne Minton. She graduated from there with a Masters’ Degree in Performance, with the support of the Leventis Foundation. She subsequently continued her vocal studies with Laura Sarti and is currently working with Arlene Randazzo, former soloist of the New York City Opera. In 2005 she received a Diploma in Opera Performance Studies from the Opera School of the University of London.

She has been the recipient of many prizes including the first prize at the Panhellenic Competition for young pianists in Athens and the English-Speaking Union annual scholarship to the Académie Ravel in France, as well as winning the Beethoven, Chamber and Contemporary Music Competitions of the RAM. In 2007 she was a finalist in the Nizzissima “Voce del Mediterraneo” Folksong Radio Competition.

During the last five years she has performed widely in England, France, Germany, Poland, Finland, Greece, Cyprus and Egypt. She has recently collaborated with the Czech National Opera as well as making her Athens Megaron debut. In 2008 she made her Cadogan Hall debut in London Lyric Opera’s Cycles. Highlights of other venues include the Cairo Opera House, the Cathedral in Helsinki, the Presidential Palace in Cyprus. In London she also appeared at The Cochrane Theatre, The Questor’s Theatre, Conway Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Leighton House, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Piccadilly, the Hellenic Centre and the Polish Institute. She also collaborated with many national orchestras such as the Cairo Symphony, the Lublin Philharmonic and the Cyprus State Chamber Orchestras.
Broadcasts include the Cyprus Radio and Television, Television France, Egyptian Television, Classic FM, Czech Radio and Radio Israel.

Her concert repertoire ranges from Italian, German, French, Spanish, English, Russian and American Art Songs to Arias from the principal Italian and French Operas. She also has a rich oratorio repertoire. Her keen interest in contemporary classical music has lead her to hold world premières of works in concerts and festivals.
