Christina Athinodorou

The work of the composer-conductor Christina Athinodorou has been described as “rich” and “intensively interpreted” by international press.

Her music has been performed by Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Sentieri Selvaggi, Endymion, Cyprus SO, St Albans SO/City of London Sinfonia and others, in: MITO Settembre Musica, Spaziomusica, Teatro dal Verme (Italy), Labyrinthmaker Project (tour in twelve countries), Forfest (Czech Republic), Reading and Dartington Halls (UK), Viitasaari Musiikin Aika, PeriFÈRIA 2009 (Finland), Chamber Series of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra (Belgium), Konzerthaus Berlin Musikclub, Lüdenscheid, Düsseldorfer Tonhalle (Germany), Kanagawa Art Hall (Japan) and elsewhere.

Her distinctions include the Aristotle University Chamber Composition Prize, the Solti Foundation Grant, Premio GERMI in Rome (Second Prize), the Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra Young Composers’ Award and various scholarships.

Christina Athinodorou is also active as a conductor. She has given first performances of her own music, more notably her one-act Opera and her orchestral works, as well as music by other composers, leading various professional and amateur ensembles and orchestras. Recently she recorded for broadcast on the SWR as a conductor, with musicians from the International Ensemble Modern Akademie Frankfurt 2009 after a masterclass with Peter Eötvös and Zsolt Nagy.

Christina was born in Paphos, Cyprus in 1981 and she studied composition and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama London. She also followed music studies at the Conservatoire National Supèrieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon, France  and at the University of North Texas in the US. She is now working on doctoral degree in Composition supervised by Dr Michael Zev Gordon at the Royal Holloway University of London where she previously has taught undergraduate students and she is concurrently a Resident-Composer at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
