Marina Panayiotou

Marina Panayiotou was born in Larnaca (Cyprus) where she studied theory, piano and guitar at the Helinicon Odeon. She continued her music studies in Greece (Athens) and Germany.

During her studies in Germany, Marina gained a BA in Composition as a student in the class of the German composer Prof. Günther Becker at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. She subsequently furthered her studies in Composition at a postgraduate level at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen in the class of Prof. Nikolaus A. Huber. She also studied Electronic and Computer Music in the class of Prof. Dirk Reith.

She participated in the 34th International Seminars for Contemporary Music in Darmstadt (Germany) and she attended workshops with Israeli Composers in Tel Aviv. She was a founding member of the Ensemble Go Ahead in Duesseldorf, an Ensemble renowned for the dissemination and performances of new music. Her music was performed in various concerts in Germany (Düsseldorf, Hagen, Hannover, Mönchengladbach and Essen), Israel (Tel-Aviv), Hungary (Vac), France (Reims), Italy (Rome) and Greece (Athens).

Marina Panayiotou is a founding member of the Center of Cypriot Composers. Performances of her works were given a Cyprus premiere in the Spring Concerts of Cypriot Composers (2001-2005) and in concerts with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (2008).

She also collaborated with the Larnaca Theatre Association in their performances of Malia Kouvaria and O Midas echi aftia gaidarou to which first prize was awarded in the Festival for Amateur Theatre in 2004.

She lives in Larnaca where she works as music teacher in secondary schools.
