Nicos Troullos

Nicos Troullos was born in Paralimni – Cyprus and had his first guitar and theory lessons on the island. He later goes to Athens where he studies High Music Theory and Composition for ten years. During the same period, he attended pedagogical studies at Athens University‘s Department of Philosophy.  

After completing his studies he comes back to Cyprus where he lives until today and works as a teacher of High Music Theory and Composition. He worked as conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Pancyprian Union of Orthodox Christians from 1988 to 1991. He is also a member of the ‘Greek Musicians Association’ and of the ‘Cypriot Composers’ Association. His orchestra creation “3 Cyprus Dances’, got third prize at the Pancyprian Orchestra Composers’ Competition announced by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus in October 2001. A month later, in November 2001, he was honored by the Municipality of Agladjia during a manifestation in honor of Agladjia authors. In May 2005 his creation ‘Rhapsody’ was given a commendation by the Ministry of Education and Culture during the Pancyprian competition of Contemporary classical music. The Ministry has also released a CD of the above-mentioned piece. In May 2005 his guitar – solo creation ‘Improuptu’ was given a commendation at the ‘International Composers’ Competition for guitar’ which was held in Corfu.

His works are published in Cyprus as well as overseas and his biography can be found in Music Dictionaries in Greece and Cyprus. He has composed music for orchestra, military band, chamber music, piano, guitar and choir. He has done the transcription of part of stringed instruments for piano, of the Concert in A for Guitar and Strings of Ferdinando Carulli. His music creations are well-known and people hear them all over the world.
